Close to Windows 2000 Plug and Play-worm
Three days after Microsoft brought out 3 critical patches, exploit code has appeared for a plug and play-vulnerability. This is especially dangerous for Windows 2000 users. ...
The vulnerability makes it possible to remotely control the PC by sending special data packets to the system. For Windows 2000 PCs you don't need login rights, making it possible for malicious users to develop a fast-spreading worm based on this exploit.
Windows 2000 users are advised to install the newly released patches as soon as possible.
Different security firms have detect exploits with slightly different code, meaning that a few groups are busy trying to bring out a worm that exploits this new Win 2k vulnerability.
Symantec has send warning with a rate of 9.6 out of 10. The company says that one of the exploits could hit a Windows 2000 machine that has installed all patches that were released before Wednesday, August 10.
Even Microsoft has send out a security advice, reporting they know about the exploit code, and they recommend users to patch. Normally worms arrive a week after the release but it could also be earlier.
